Nathan's Been Busy
Here are some pictures of Nathan's latest activities. He served his 4-day mission in Meadowview Ward the last week before school started and on Wednesday night he completed his Eagle Scout Board of Review....he is officially an Eagle Scout now! He has also been busy teaching guitar lessons on Saturday afternoons with Brother Helmer and he's tutoring Math at "Mathnasium" with some private tutoring on the side.

Matthew George Osborne - Associate of Science Degree
After several years of night school and online classes, Matt graduated from Irvine Valley College with an Associate of Science degree on Friday. The graduation ceremony was very nice and it was fun to see the campus for the first time. And of course, dinner at Houstons was delicious!!! What's next?!? Matt found that he enjoyed his online classes (so much more flexible with his busy work schedule) and is considering working on his Bachelor's Degree in Business...but first, a one year break!!!

New York City
Kevin and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary on April 24th in NEW YORK CITY! We had an absolutely wonderful week!!! Some of our highlights would include the Manhattan Temple, Central Park, Lion King, and the Late Show with David Letterman. We were so lucky because they had very unusual weather for April...it was 80 degrees with beautiful clear, sunny skies. Our hotel, The St. Regis, was right off 5th Ave. It was so beautiful and luxurious and it was just a few blocks from Central Park and walking distance to almost everything. We did take the subway a few times to complete the experience. It was such a fun week... if we didn't have Nathan and Karly at home it would have been hard to get me to come home!

Pioneer Trek 2009
Nathan and Karly went on the Temecula Stake Pioneer Trek this weekend. Every 4 years our stake does this for youth conference and I believe this was the 4th trek!!!
So, they weren't too excited at first...but it didn't take long for them to get into it!
Here they are with their "trek families." Karly's brothers might be particularly interested to see that Karly's "Ma" and "Pa" were Carrie and Larrie Tomseth!
If you look closely at the last picture you can see them starting on the trail. It was a perfect setting at Sundance Meadows and the weather was awesome! They were glad they went!!!

March Madness Winner
Taylor Returns to Mexico
Taylor has been dying to go back to Mexico (he has been home for just over a year now) so Kevin, Taylor, and I headed to Tijuana to visit one of his companions. We drove to the border and then walked across where Jershon picked us up and drove us to his home. His mom, Sophia, made us a fantastic authentic Mexican lunch. We also took a short tour around the town (not the tourist parts) and stopped at a local mall and had some delicious gelato. It really was great to hear Taylor and Jershon talk about their missions and to see that mission sparkle in Taylor's eyes. He loves Mexico!

Great Oak Basketball
Another basketball season is over! Although it wasn't the best year for Great Oak High School, Nathan came away with a few awards at the Awards Banquet last week: Varsity Letter (again), Integrity Award (voted on by the players), and Coaches Award. Next year should prove to be interesting with a new coach (still to be named) and Nathan's freshmen team playing together again!
And of course, the Varsity Team would not be complete without the "stat girls," Karly and her friends Jessica (and Melina who was not there when I took pictures.)

I'M BACK!!!
I'm back to blogging at last and I'll try to make a few posts covering the last 2 months!!!
Nathan received the "Reflection" Award at a recent awards ceremony. We are told these awards are the most prestigious awards given at Great Oak High School. Each department selects a student to receive an award for one of the following: Scholarship, Passion, Involvement, Reflection, Integrity, and Team (S.P.I.R.I.T). Nathan received his award from the science department from his Physics teacher, Mr. Garcia. After noting his A+ in the class, Mr. Garcia made this observation: "Nathan is not the 'brainiac' student who wastes everyday away because physics is too easy and he couldn't be bothered - instead he manages to complete every assignment and shows a propensity for physics by doing well on all his test." I thought he described Nathan well! Congratulations Nathan!
